Ayurveda, Wellness Coaching and Treatments

Ayurveda is a unique health science for understanding and managing wellness in the body, mind, and spirit. It is an integral sister science to yoga and Vedic astrology. Ayurveda respects and focuses on the uniqueness of each individual body-mind in addressing health and wellness. By emphasizing prevention, Ayurveda empowers everyone to take responsibility for their own well-being.

At-Home Spring Cleanse

Detailed 10-Day DIY At-Home Protocol.
Reset your digestion and boost your immune system for the coming season. I recommend getting a personal consultation in addition to this so that we can tailor the cleanse to your specific constitution and needs.

Ayurvedic Wellness Coaching

In an individual Ayurvedic Wellness Coaching session, we will begin by discovering your unique body-mind constitution, by observing patterns in body and mind and conversing about your health, diet, and routines. This includes an 8-fold physical assessment and pulse reading. With an understanding of your individual constitution, I will offer general dietary guidelines and help you to understand what foods, herbs, spices and daily routines can best support your unique path to balanced health and wellness. We can focus on addressing complaints such as digestion, stress, and pain, among others. We will work together to develop a simple protocol that you can integrate into your daily life to improve your quality of living and feeling. A coaching session can be accompanied by any combination of other supportive treatments.

Abhyanga is the traditional Ayurvedic oil massage wherein warm herbal oil is applied with gentle circular strokes to the entire body, head, and feet. This deeply nourishing treatment aims to pacify vata dosha through the absorption of the herbal oil into the body, calming the mind and nervous system. It also benefits the circulatory, lymphatic, and digestive systems, promoting better health and well-being on many levels. This treatment is recommended on a regular basis (even daily, as part of your at-home self-care routine), as well as in preparation for a Pancha Karma cleanse. Suitable for all constitutional types.

Svedana indicates “sweating” and is an essential part of the Ayurvedic Pancha Karma cleanse. We utilize a dry infrared sauna for 20-45 minutes to induce sweating after other Ayurvedic treatments. This helps to promote circulation and detoxification as well as relaxation, muscle & joint pain relief, clearer skin and better sleep. It assists the immune system and has been said to help with weight loss and the reduced appearance of cellulite.

Dough Basti

Warm herbal oil or ghee can be applied locally for pain relief to different parts of the body, such as the back, low back, or heart area. A dough barrier is constructed and stuck to the body, and then filled with warm oil that is circulated and reheated for a time. In Netra Basti, the dough barrier is placed around the eyes, and warm ghee is poured into the area. One then opens the eyes and looks around, blinking, allowing the ghee to circulate around the eye. This is an incredible treatment for anyone with vision problems or glasses. It cleans debris from in and around the eyes, and reliefs eye muscle tension and strain.

Marma Point Therapy

Marma chikitsa is the Ayurvedic protocol that treats the vital sensitive points on the body, known as marmani or marma points. In this treatment we apply gentle pressure to the vital points using the fingers as well as tuning forks set at 136 vibrations per second (associated with “Om”). Stimulating these points awakens the inner pathway of spiritual light and energetic healing. Different points can be associated with emotional blocks as well as physical conditions. This energy treatment is deeply nourishing, relaxing, and refreshing.

Shirodhara is another deeply nourishing treatment in which a stream of warm herbal oil flows over the top of the head for 20-30 minutes, followed by a scalp, hand and foot massage. This promotes a very deep state of relaxation, guiding the nervous system into a parasympathetic state that activites the body’s innate self-healing tendencies. It is renowned as a potent remedy for stress and anxiety, utilizing herbs that are beneficial to mental functioning. It is also utilized in clinical Ayurveda as well as the Pancha Karma cleanse protocol.

Pancha Karma

Pancha Karma, or “the five actions,” is the traditional Ayurvedic cleanse and rejuvenation program. This can be undertaken from days to weeks, and may include all of the therapies above as well as a special diet and regimen of herbs and routines. I will work with you to develop a tailored program based on your individual constitution and conditions, as well as what fits within your life’s constraints. Ideally this program involves a week of preparation at home and at least 5 days away at a retreat setting.

Bliss Package: Abhyanga + Shirodhara + Svedana

This is a comprehensive package for deep nourishment and self-care. Abhyanga (herbal oil massage), Shirodhara (warm oil stream over the head), and Svedana (sweating) work together to nourish the tissues, mind, and nervous system, promoting circulation, detoxification, and lymphatic movement, resulting in reduced pain and stress, and a profoundly increased sense of relaxation and well-being. This roughly 2.5-hour set of treatments can be part of a larger Pancha Karma cleanse, or can serve you on a regular basis like a spa treatment that soothes, nourishes and grounds you, allowing you to feel more centered, aligned and healthy as you move through everyday life.
